Как переводить на английский компактнее?

Прежде всего, нужно запомнить следующие вещи:

• Используйте то, что читателю понятнее. Весь ваш богатейший словарный запас может попросту отпугнуть читателя.
• Пишите короткие предложения, выкидывайте лишние слова — они затуманивают и текст, и голову читателя.

Помимо этого, старайтесь избавляться от утяжеляющих конструкций и союзов, таких как:

WHO, WHICH, THAT:

My neighbor, WHO is the president of the local association, has three kids.  => 

My neighbor, the president of the local association, has three kids.

The building next door, WHICH used to be abandoned, is now a hospital. => 

The building next door, once abandoned, is now a hospital.

He wished THAT he had taken the exam THAT he had given more seriously. => 

He wished he had taken the exam more seriously.

THERE IS, IT IS:

IT WAS with great regret that I fired my employee. =>

Regrettably, I fired my employee

THERE IS no reason for the agency to pursue the sexual harassment claims. =>

The agency has no reason to pursue the sexual harassment claims.

I BELIEVE, I FEEL, I AM OF THE OPINION THAT и т. д.

I BELIEVE THAT violent crimes should have severe punishment.

I AM OF THE OPINION THAT animals should not be used in circuses.

SO / SO THAT (заменяйте на фразы TO + VERB):

Close the windows SO THAT the air conditioning stays inside the room. =>

Close the windows to keep the air conditioning inside the room.

BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT (заменяйте на BECAUSE):

BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT I love you, I know we will always stay together.

И, напоследок, используйте предложные группы, когда это возможно:

When you see the third stop sign, take a left. = >

At the third stop sign, take a left.
